How to style your console table

Reclaiming an unused space in your home could be as simple as finding the right piece of furniture. A console table or sideboard is a versatile piece you can use to furnish an empty or unused space in a room or entry hall; as well as provide storage and a surface for elegant display.

Where to use a console table

Great in a living or dining room, entry hall or bedroom; console tables provide storage as well as a surface for elegant display.

In the living room you may wish to place your console table or sideboard against a wall, under a wall mounted TV, or else behind a sofa.

Your console table can be taller or shorter than your sofa, there isn’t a hard and fast rule here, just make sure the size of console you choose balances well with the scale of your room.

TIP: Use art as a focal point to draw your eye, and provide an anchor for your display.

How to style your console

When situated against a wall, begin styling a console table by creating a focal point. This could be a mirror, or a piece of art. This is the piece that your eye will be drawn to first and will anchor your whole display and set the tone.

Hang the art at a suitable height above the console or else lean it against the wall for a more casual look.

A lamp gives a designer look and adds strength to the display.

A generous vase filled with foliage – faux or fresh adds life and colour.

TIP: Use tall green stems in a generous vase to make an effortless style statement.

Console Tables as storage solutions

If it’s extra storage you need, choose a console with drawers like our Sussex two and three drawer options. These can be used to hold accessories like remote controls and cords, even napery and cutlery.

The open shelf can be used to hold baskets to contain clutter, as well as cushions or a lush potted plant.

TIP: Accessorise the open shelf of your console with baskets. Not only do they look great, but double as extra storage for shoes, bags, toys, spare blankets and more!
