Trudon Tuileries Candles

Candle Care Tip #1 - The first burn is the most important

Our first candle care tip is all about getting the most burn time from your candle.
Did you know that wax has a memory? You may have experienced ‘tunnelling’ with candles you’ve owned in the past, where a little bit of wax always remains at the edges of the candle and just won’t melt…wasting much of the candle’s lovely fragrance!
Here's our candle care tip to prevent this from happening. Set the memory of the wax on the first burn by leaving it lit until the wax melts right to the very edge of your vessel. This can take up to four hours, depending on the size of your candle and the number of wicks.
After this, your candle should melt cleanly to the edge on each subsequent burn, ensuring you get the most out of your candle.

Candle Care Tip #2 - How long to burn your candle

As we mentioned in candle care tip 1. It's important to burn your candle all the way to the edges the first time you light it. After this it's important you only burn your candle for around one to two hours at a time to ensure your wax melts cleanly and evenly in the vessel.

Candle Care Tip #3 - Be careful where you place your candle

Take care not to leave your candle in line of drafts. A breeze will always accelerate the burning of a candle and shorten its life.
An important candle care tip for dinner candles as a breeze can make your candles drip onto your tablecloth.

Candle Care Tip #4 - Extinguishing your candle

This candle care tip is one that not everyone knows... When extinguishing your candle, it’s always best to push the tip of the wick into the melted wax, instead of blowing out the flame.
This process eliminates any acrid smoke that would otherwise be produced and protects the candle wick.
Les Éteignoir is perfect for this task. Carefully designed, this tool features a delicate hook made to press the wick into liquid wax, raise and centre it again.
Candle snuffer can also help reduce smoke. We have these available in our candle care kit

Ensure your wick stands in the centre of the candle after each burn. If an adjustment is necessary, do so while the wax is still molten.

Candle Care Tip #5 - Trim your wick

Our last candle care tip is one of the most important. Trimming your wick. Keeping your candle wick to a length of approx 5mm means your candle flame will be an an optimal size. Ensuring the wax doesn't melt too fast, shortening the life of your candle.
It also means you prevent that ugly soot buildup that can otherwise happen on the side of the candle vessel.
