Every Home Needs a Good Vase

A good vase is a classic essential - always handy for when you bring home a bunch of blooms, add a few garden cuttings, or need a quick styling lift for a shelf or table. Even when empty, the right vase adds shape and interest to a space.

Think of it as functional decor : beautiful on its own, and even better when filled with something beautiful.

What to Look For When Choosing a Vase

Choose your vase based on the flowers you love, the space you have, and the style you want to create.

Tall and Slim Vases

Add height and elegance.

Perfect for :

  • Entryways & Hallways : A tall vase on a console table draws the eye and sets the tone.

  • Dining Tables or Kitchen Islands : Use with long stems or branches for added drama.

  • Sideboards & Buffets : They balance out lower pieces like trays or bowls.

  • Bathrooms & Bedrooms : A tall, slim vase with a single stem brings calm and sophistication to intimate spaces.

Wide and Round Vases

Create a softer, fuller feel.

Ideal for :

  • Coffee Tables : Perfect for lush, full arrangements that don't block the view.

  • Dining Tables : Great as a centrepiece filled with dense bouquets.

  • Shelves & Sideboards : Add softness and texture without taking up too much height.

  • Entryway Consoles : A low vase with greenery or flowers adds a welcoming touch.

Vase Details to Consider

Narrow neck vases keep stems neat and tidy.
Less stems are needed for a good display.

Wide mouth vases can accomodate plenty of stems.
Otherwise the wider mouth can create a relaxed, natural look when using less stems.

Glass is clean and classic, but generally looks better with fresh rather than faux flowers as the stems will be visibile.

Ceramic vases add texture and warmth, also ideal for faux flowers as the stems wont be visible.

Sculptural shapes can become statement pieces - even when empty.

Not all Vases are Watertight

Some beautiful vases - especially handmade ceramics or decorative vessels - might not hold water. If you want to use fresh flowers, try placing a smaller glass or plastic container inside to hold water, or choose faux stems instead. This way, you get style and function without compromise

A Few of Tara's Favourites

Leia Vase (Tall)

"I love this vase. It's not only a great price, but has clean lines and is perfect for both fresh or faux flowers. This one is one of my go to vases for medium and larger arrangements and would suit a hall table, a console or on a kitchen island bench."

Herama Pot (Medium)

"This vase is a good all rounder, perfect for small to medium arrangements - around five stems is ideal. I love the shape and texture, it also comes in a larger sie for bigger settings."

Loretta Pot (Large)

"This beautiful, sculptural shape makes any arrangement look great. Use this of a side board, coffee table or dining table centrepiece - or empty to decorate a shelf with simple, elegant style."
