Block printed cushions are the perfect combination of artistry mixed with comfort. All of the cushions in this collection have been hand block printed by skilled artisans in India.

What is Block Printing? 

Thought to be over 4000 years old, block printing is the earliest and slowest form of textile printing. 
To create these prints artisans will first hand carve wooden pieces to create the print blocks. Depending on the intricacy of the design some styles may require 3 or more blocks to complete one print. 
Once they have the blocks the printing can begin. 
Each block is covered in dye and pressed into the fabric. This process is repeated until the whole fabric is covered. 
Block printing is a very manual process with each piece being laid by hand. It's a slow process but it creates such stunning and artistic results that this method is still highly popular even in today's society with digital printing so easily accessible. 

Block Printed Cushion Sizes. 

We have a range of sizes available in our block printed cushion collection. 
Our Walter G cushions are commonly available in 55x55cm, 50x50cm or 35x55cm. 
Others are available in 50x50cm, 35x55cm and 30x45cm.

55x55cm and 50x50cm Square Cushions 
These square cushions are often used in a pair as the main feature cushions on a bed or could be used in a mixed collection on a sofa. 
They can also be used individually on a single bed or armchair. 

35x55cm or 30x45cm Rectangular Cushions
These rectangular cushions are great for creating some variation in height when paired with square cushions. They are great as a finishing cushion on the bed or perhaps just a little lumbar cushion for an armchair.
